VGM of the Day #20: Puzzle Plank Galaxy
FREAKING RODEOS IN SPACE WHAT IS GOING ON
Now, I've never played either Super Mario Galaxy game, so it's possible that I'm missing some context here, but this track is pretty silly to me. There's nothing wrong with that by any means; in fact, that's the best thing about it. It's like a freaking square dance in space, a combination so unorthodox that I can't help but just roll with it.
Being the violin aficionado that I am, it's refreshing to see it being used in an upbeat manner every now and then, and the supporting bass is bouncy and cheerful. It's a mix of several unlikely qualities that when combined together totally work out, and knowing Nintendo it's probably implemented to great effect.
Maybe I should go and get the Galaxy games. Of course I've heard great things about them, and have read a review here and there, but music's one of the key things I base my opinions on. Super Mario Galaxy's got some great music, from what I can see.
